  • The withanolides serve as important hormone precursors that can convert into human physiologic hormones as needed.
  • Traditionally, Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri)was used as a brain tonic to enhance memory development, learning, and concentration, and to provide relief to patients with anxiety or epileptic disorders.
  • The constituents responsible for Bacopa’s cognitive effects are bacosides A and B.
  • The bacosides aid in repair of damaged neurons by enhancing kinase activity, neuronal synthesis, and restoration of synaptic activity, and ultimately nerve impulse transmission.
  • The main active constituents in Jatamansi (Nardostachys Jatamansi) are sesquiterpenes and coumarins.
  • Jatamansi is known to have increased the level of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and taurine in mice which helps to reduce depression.
